TO PRINT THE CATDISK MANUAL, ISSUE THE COMMAND:
***********************************************
COPY CATDISK.DOC PRN
Please read at least the section on configuring CATDISK in the configuration
section of the manual.
Please note that the option "Temporarily Exit To DOS" has been moved from a
visible option <F2> to an invisible option <F3> (i.e. it doesn't show on the
menus). This was done in order to accomodate a new option that allows
searching the catalog by file somments and to preserve the main menu's "look".
It should only be a minor inconvenience to all, as it is typically used only
rarely.
A few people have asked me why they get a disk full error when updating a
catalog, when apparently, there is ample free space on the disk. The reason
behind this is that, when updating a catalog, CATDISK builds the new catalog
from the old one; that is that during the cataloguing process, both files will
exist at the same time. When CATDISK has finished it's operation, it then
deletes the old file. This means, for example, that if you have a 360kb floppy
diskette, the largest catalog size that you can fit on that particular diskette
is approximately 180kb.

If You Were Using A Version of CATDISK Prior To V2.10
-----------------------------------------------------
As there is now more information being stored in the summary file, you will
have to discard your old catalog files and start from scratch. Any .SUM files
created with CATDISK versions before V2.10 are NOT compatible with this one.
----------------------------------------------------------
If You Were Using A Version of CATDISK From V2.10 to V3.28
----------------------------------------------------------
Starting with CATDISK V3.50, file comments are fully supported (see, I am still
listening to your suggestions!!). You do *NOT* have to purge your old catalog
files and start over... just run the program CDISKCVT.COM on each catalog file
that you have, and it will be converted to the new format.
The syntax of this command is:
CDISKCVT catalog_name
- where catalog_name is the name of the catalog file to be converted.
(do NOT include the filename extension of .DTA on the command line)
*** NOTE TO ALL SINGLE DRIVE FLOPPY DISK USERS ***
Previous versions of CATDISK may have caused problems with the directory of
the diskette being catalogued getting overwritten when labelling a diskette
or cataloguing it. This problem has been rectified with Version 2.00. To
catalog on a single floppy system, set the catalog drive the same as the one
on which the CATDISK work files reside. (i.e. if you start CATDISK from
drive A:, set the catalog drive to drive A:) At the appropriate times,
CATDISK will now prompt you to switch diskettes as they are needed.
Users with a hard-disk, single floppy configuration, who are running CATDISK
from the hard disk will NOT experience this problem and may proceed as
normal. It's ONLY if the same PHYSICAL drive is being used for the CATDISK
work files AND the diskette to be catalogued that the above precautions must
be taken.
